A couple weeks ago we went to visit our friends Josh & Courtney in Cozumel, Mexico. They are living there for a couple months this summer before they move to Boston for him to start school at MIT. We had a ton of fun and it was really interesting seeing how the locals live. We rode scooters around the island, ate at many local spots and even shopped at the local supermarket.
The first day we were there we got down to business....snorkeling and then a few cold beverages.
The next day was time for scooters. Not really my cup of tea, but I figured I would give it a shot. As it turned out it was pretty fun, and since it was overcast it wasn't too hot.
We stopped at several beach clubs on our ride. The first was a really fun place called Coconuts. It was a little wacky, but worth the stop!
I love animals, so this was definitely a hot spot for me! They had a few birds, a really fat cat and a couple of dogs.
This is Garfield the fat cat! He decided that he wanted to lay on my bag and cozy up to it in the chair next to me!
This is Chimichanga the cockatoo! He was so fun, when you would get your camera out to start taking pictures he would start dancing and head banging. He really loved the camera!
He was so easy going, just climbed on my finger and sat there until I was done
having my fun! Love it!!
having my fun! Love it!!
Another beach club we stopped at had peacocks on the beach. They were beautiful to watch and there were even some baby chicks too.
We went to breakfast at a little local place called La Choza, and the huevos rancheros were to die for. By far my favorite place we ate.
One night we went to Senor Frogs. Pretty fun, but definitely made for tourists. It is very cheezy, but it was still a great place to have a good time!
Another morning we ate breakfast at the Museum. The little cafe was outside and the view was amazing. The food was really fresh too!
Later that day we took a taxi to a resort called Playa Azul and hung out at the beach the majority of the day. It was so beautiful!
The last night we were there we went to a local diner called Casa Denis. They served Yucatan food and the place was pretty entertaining! The waiter kept bringing us tequila shots and we have definitely been out of college for a while! I do not do shots, but the pressure was on, so I went for it. Just as I remembered.....nasty.
There is a supermarket called MEGA that is very similar to a Wal-mart. For our last breakfast we bought a couple cokes and some pastries and ate them right there at some little tables in the store.
The kids that bag your groceries are "volunteers" which means they only work for tips because they are under age. Their outfits cracked me up! As it turns out they sometimes they make more than the cashiers.
The last morning before our flight Josh and Jody got one last round of snorkeling in.......
We also made a stop by Margaritaville just to take a look around before we had out.
All in all we had a blast with great friends and made memories that we will share for a long time. I am so glad that we were able to take a long weekend at the beach!
